We have kids. You have kids. Don't you want Mother Earth to be around for them? We do, so we've really focused on making our company as green as possible. Not only is it good for the environment, it's good for you.

Kotori is committed to being as green as possible by using green initiatives for our custom photo jewelry.

We only print with certified green materials.

We searched for a printer that uses paper stock that is chlorine free and FSC or SFI certified, which promotes responsible environmental behavior and sound forest management. In addition, our catalogs are printed on paper that uses 10% post-consumer waste.

Our marketing collateral pieces are printed with vegetable-based inks.

Vegetable based inks significantly reduce the amount of VOCs released in the air. The inks used are a renewable source and do not contain any of the heavy metal pigments which are associated with health hazards so you can feel at ease recycling them yourself.

We recycle silver whenever possible.

All extra silver and metal pieces are recycled rather than tossed in the trash. Silver is a precious resource and we treat it as such.

Our packaging is made from recycled materials.

All our boxes are made with 100% recycled materials, of which 75% is post-consumer waste.

We go paperless whenever possible.

You'll notice that we don't include an extra printed invoice with our shipments b/c you receive one electronically. Whenever possible, we try to cut down on the number of printed materials we send out.

We use non-soldering jump rings.

The use of solder can release chemicals in the air, so we have searched for alternatives to soldering whenever possible, while still maintaining the high quality we (and you) expect from our pieces.

We have lowered our carbon footprint with our shipping.

Whenever possible we ship using bubble mailers to cut down on weight and size. Bubble mailers are recyclable if you simply rip out the plastic and separate the paper & plastic in your recycling bin. Plus we use the US Post Office which follows green initiatives and operates the world's largest fleet of alternative fuel capable vehicles. And the majority of their deliveries are made the most energy efficient way of all... on foot. For more about what the USPS is doing for the environment, check it out here.

We use responsible suppliers.

Our own suppliers utilize environmental initiatives themselves - some even using solar power as their main source of energy.

We only purchase from Fair Trade resources.

Sure we could get some of our supplies cheaper if we want to use factories in countries that are not concerned with humanitarian conditions and pay. But we don't. All our handmade pieces that don't come directly from our studio are made using fair trade practices.

We've requested our suppliers cut down on the plastic.

With jewelry supplies, almost everything is sent in individual plastic bags to fight tarnishing. When we first began I was shocked at the number of plastic bags that were wasted - hundreds each week. We have designed our studio to use dehumidifying to combat the issue of tarnishing so we can request that our own suppliers stop sending us so many plastic bags.

What else do we do?

We recycle EVERYTHING we possibly can - extra paper, plastic bags, mixing containers, everything. We encourage composting and recycling among all our employees and participate in neighborhood efforts to encourage those same practices in our community.
